On August 5th, 1942, Janusz Korczak, along with Stefa Wilczyńska and 10-12 staff members and 239 children, were deported to Treblinka death camp. They were murdered in the gas chamber upon their arrival at Treblinka.
For unknown reasons there is never ending debate about the actual number of Korczak orphanage children (192 or 196 or 200) and the number of the staff and the day of deportation to Treblinka extermination camp.
