I am looking for a specialist - graphologist. This includes: for the analysis of unidentified texts written in Polish in the Ghetto Heroes Archive. For example, two people are often selected as authors for the same text. This slightly special activity concerns pre-war texts written "In the Korczakowski Circle". It is often known who left the texts to the GFH archive, but it is not certain who actually wrote them. Such an analysis is usually not very difficult and at the same time very interesting. Unfortunately, it's time-consuming.
You have to be observant to get so much out of the letters, especially since many people's writing style was similar and also changed over time... The group of people who could have written certain texts related to Korczak's Orphans' Home is limited! I know for sure some people who can be excluded from this group.
Below there are two documents from the Janusz Korczak collection at GFH: The play and the story called "O Pólnocy" ("Midnight"), from the estate of Arie Buchner. Buchner was a bursa student - teacher at Korczak's orphanage Dom Sierot. The story, which describes a night at the orphanage, was apparently not written by Buchner but by Korczak (his typical way to write). GFH wrote that the play was probably written by Madzia Markuze - Zeliger. Madzia Markuze was the first editorial secretary of the newspaper "Maly Przeglad" (Little Review) as a youngster. However, to be 100% sure about it, one need to see other writings in Polish by Arie Buchner, a.o. his notebook mentioned in the book by Stasiek Zyngman. Arie Buchner writes in the notebook, where he describes facts and incidents from children’s
lives at the summer camp: “16th July: Dr. left today to receive his medal. 19th July: I was in
Warsaw. Miss Stefa showed me the medal and said that she only shows it to those, who work
well. She added that she is more happy about the medal than the Doctor himself”*.

"Untitled play"in Polish - the play, was most probably, written by Arie Buchner. I the above enclosed description in Hebrew, (most probably written by himself) Buchner stated that he wrote this play when he was 11-12 year old.

On the right, Korczak's letter to Arie Buchner submitted to the Archives of the Ghetto Heroes in Israel by Lejb Aryeh (Arie) Buchner, who in 1924-27 was a boarder at Janusz Korczak's Orphan Home. At the same time, he studied at the State Seminary for Teachers of the Mosaic Religion. On the right not "fully identified" text at the GFH archives in Israel. It is my opinion that the text of the play O Północy - Midnight was written by Korczak. |
