Janusz Korczak and his sister Anna Lui at 8 Złota Street in Warszawa

An envelope addressed to Dr. Janusz Korczak, No. 8 Zlota St. Apt. #4, from the Lectures Department of the Polish Radio Programming Administration.

In the middle, slightly enlarged building 8 Złota Street in Warsaw (the light building).

The photo above of the building 8 Złota Street is the only one I found. It was taken in October 1940. People look at something that happens at Palladium cinema at opposite side of  the street - roundup?

Between 1932 and 1939, Janusz Korczak  lived in the same flat with his sister Anna Lui. First at 2 Żurawia Street, and then, until the outbreak of the war, at 8 Złota Street.

The photo above of the building 8 Złota Street is the only one I found. It was taken in October 1940. People look at something that happens at Palladium cinema at opposite side of  the street - may be a German roundup?

I am looking for other photographs of this building. After WWII at the site of 8 Złota Street there was cinema called Relax.

Anna Lui stayed in the Warsaw ghetto and visited frequently the Orphanage. According to the account in (Życie Warszawy 1992, No. 186) given by my father Michał Wróblewski, a teacher at Korczak’s orphanage, she was transported from Umschlagplatz in Warsaw to the extermination camp in Treblinka in 1942, during Gross Action.
“The huge square, the crowd and the SS-officer with a whip. He, like the evil archangel, decided who went to the carriage to die, and who looked fit enough to work. Then, I saw Korczak’s sister on the side of death”. 

My father succeeded to escape from the Umschlagplatz on this particular day.
