Am Yisrael Chai - The nation of Israel lives in Dalarna

Working with new photo exhibition about White boats and S/S Ulua. Here young men, Holocaust survivors in Furudal, Sweden. With their bodies they spell out the phrase "Am Yisrael Chai" (the nation of Israel lives). Picture taken in 1946, shortly before immigrating to Eretz Israel.
They left Sweden in January 1947.
Am Yisrael Chai means The Jewish nation lives. Jew-hatred has changed from generation to generation, from pogroms to expulsions to genocide, but “the Jewish nation still lives”.
They reached Eretz Israel but were moved by British to the detention camp on Cyprus. They finally landed in Israel in 1948.
