My mother Lunia liked the name Nelly and suggested it earlier for our daughter or later for our cocker spaniels, and also Nel if we got a son or male dog.
I found that the name Nelly \n(el)-ly\is pronounced NEL-ee and is of English origin. It is a short form of Helen(a) (my grandmother), or Eleanor ( Greek) " light".
