1912- 1942 - Korczak Orphanage fate in Warsaw : Krochmalna 92 - Chłodna 33 - Sienna 16
Korczak’s Orphanage was build at 92 Krochmalna (street) by the Orphans Aid Society. It was a two-storey building on the city outskirts. Dom Sierot at Krochmalna str.opened on October 7, 1912 and 85 children were admitted.
On October 2nd 1940 Fischer signed the decree on setting up a ghetto in Warsaw. In late 1940 (Novemeber 29 ) Orphanage was definitely moved to "ghetto area" and temporarily located on 33 Chłodna Street, thus after expulsion from its previous location on Krochmalna 92.
On the pictures on the left there are three horse dragged wagons on the Zelazna street (at nr. 77) just before turning right to Chłodna street.
Subsequently, when Chłodna Street (see picture on the left) was exluded from the ghetto, Korczak was forced to transfer his establishment to 16 Sienna Street.

At Chłodna Street 26 (now nr. 22) (close to Zelazna str.)
early in 1942 a wooden footbridge was built for Jews crossing between the ‘Little’ and ‘Big’ Ghettos. Below the bridge ran Chłodna Street, excluded from the Ghetto because of its important role as a transport and communications link.

Between 21-26 October 1941 - Korczak's Orphans Home moves from 33 Chłodna Street to the building at 16 Sienna Street/ 9 Śliska str.
The building at 16 Sienna Street/9 Śliska str is the one from where the deportation to Umschlagsplatz and thereafter to to the death camp Treblinka took place on August 5th 1942.

Bird view of area around Sienna and Sliska Street. Korczaks Orphanage was at number 16 Sienna and 9 Sliska. The house at Wielka str was bombarede in September 1939. Efterwards children were using it as a hill for winther activities. There was a wall at Wielka str and threrafter a fence along Sienna street: Mary Berg lived at Sienna str.
