The origin of Korczak in Echo Muzyczne - March 1899. |
When in 1898, young Henryk Goldszmit sent two plays to a literary competition announced by Ignacy Paderewski in the magazine "Echo Muzyczne, Teatralne i Artystyczne". One is signed by Janasz Korczak and the other by Janusz, a pseudonym he used throughout 1898 in magazines such as Kolce. In March 1898, Henryk Goldszmit received a distinction at a competition for his play "Which Way?" signed Janasz Korczak. This is announced in issue 13 of March 29, 1898, of the magazine "Echo Muzyczne, Teatralne i Artystyczne", where we read: The competition revealed the names of young writers that had not been known before, Kisielewski, Lewicki, Korczak, Marya Zawiszyna and Starża. Of course, it is a myth that Janusz Korczak and not Janasz was the typesetter's error. About a year later, the form of the pseudonym was finally established by combining Janusz, previously used in "Czytelnia dla Młodych" and Korczak from the literary competition of the magazine "Echo Muzyczne, Teatralne i Artystyczne", a pseudonym that became his second surname.
