Holocaust survivors - Three boys from Korczak's orphanage all died in Israel, respectively in 2017, 2018, and now 2021.

This last Friday it felt like the end of an Era. Izio-Icio Belfer, an artist, and the last surviving child from the Korczak Orphanage died fifteen days before his 98th birthday. Just a few years ago in 2017, there were still three surviving boys: Icek Skalka, Szlomo-Szlamek Nadel, and Izio-Icio Belfer.
It is not a coincidence that all three lived and died in Israel. Firstly it might be a result of the strong feelings for Eretz Israel that they developed in Korczak's Dom Sierot. Another reason is that like all survivors who returned to their home countries after the Holocaust, they found their families have gone and their homes occupied by strangers. Like thousands of others, they saw Eretz Israel as their new home. Just like thousands of survivors who came to Sweden at the end of the war in 1945 they as soon as possible traveled to build a new future and new life in Israel.
