On May 16, 1943, the Germans blew up the Great Synagogue in Warszawa, Korczaks Synagogue.


On 16 May, German general Stroop declared the mission at the Warsaw Ghetto as complete. To mark their victory, the Germans blew up the Great Synagogue on Tłomackie Street.

On May 16, 1943, German general Stroop declared the mission at the Warsaw Ghetto as complete. To mark their victory, the Germans blew up the Great Synagogue on Tłomackie Street. Stroop titled his report, “The Jewish district in Warsaw is no more.”

The Great Synagogue on Tłomackie was Korczak's father´s synagogue. Later, the synagogue always welcomed children from Korczak's Dom Sierot.
